ChatGPT Ads: Tag Setup, Validation, and FAQs
Update your Invoca Tag to capture OpenAI tracking identifiers, confirm that call events reach ChatGPT Ads, and review what data Invoca sends, for marketers who manage Invoca integrations.
Overview
To match phone calls to ChatGPT ad interactions, the Invoca Tag on your website must capture the OpenAI Click ID and visitor identifiers. After you update the Tag, you can confirm in Invoca that events are reaching ChatGPT Ads. This article is Step 3 of the ChatGPT Ads integration. Steps 1 and 2 are in the companion article “ChatGPT Ads: Integration Guide.”
Before you begin
- You completed Steps 1 and 2 in “ChatGPT Ads: Integration Guide”: your ChatGPT Ads account is connected in Invoca and you created at least one Action.
- Your Invoca Tag is deployed on your website.
- You have permission to edit Invoca Tags. If you are not sure you do, contact Invoca.
Step 3: Update your Invoca Tag to capture attribution data
- Click the gear icon, select Invoca Tags, then select the Tag deployed on your website.
- Open the Revision History tab, then edit an existing draft or create a New Draft.
- In the Marketing Data section, find the OpenAI Click ID (
oppref) field. Confirm it is enabled and set to capture from the URL query string (Data Source Type: URL Param).
- Switch on the Capture IP Address and Capture User Agent toggles.
- Test your Tag changes. When the test passes, click Save & Go Live.
- If you manage multiple website Tags, repeat these steps for each Tag.
Note: An IP address is personally identifiable information (PII). Check your company’s compliance and privacy policies before you switch on Capture IP Address.
Validate that events reach ChatGPT Ads
- Go to Integrations > Manage Integrations.
- Click the ChatGPT Ads tile, then click the name of your Action.
- Review the Delivery Details chart, which logs data transmissions for the last 30 days:
- Green bars show successful server-to-server deliveries.
- Red bars show errors. To troubleshoot, click the Delivery History tab, expand a row, and review the API response details.
When the chart shows green bars, the integration is installed and reporting call conversions to ChatGPT Ads.
