Answers to common questions about the Invoca for Google Ads integration, plus troubleshooting steps for missing conversions, call count mismatches, and common error messages.

FAQs

What do I need to set up before installing the integration? Choose an Invoca user with Administrative credentials to authenticate. We strongly recommend creating a dedicated Google Ads user with a unique email address for the integration, to protect against organizational turnover. Decide whether to install at the Network or Profile level, and confirm you can view Signals in reports at that level. Make sure you integrate with the Google Ads manager or client account that actually manages your conversions. How do I configure my integration? See the Manage Settings section of the Google Ads: Installation Guide. How do I remove unwanted or erroneous conversions? Deleting a Signal from the Configuration tab sets its Google Ads conversions to “removed.” To reinstate one, create a new Signal with the same name and re-associate the accounts. How is revenue reported to Google Ads? For Signals, Invoca sends the Invoca Revenue value to Google’s “Conversions Value” column. For Paid Call transactions, Invoca sends the Invoca Earned value. You can also set a Default Conversion Value as a fallback when no Invoca Revenue value is present on a Signal — this is second in priority to the Signal’s own Revenue value. Can I choose which conversions count toward automated bidding? Yes — check “include in conversions” for a Signal to include it in Google Ads automated bidding. Unchecked Signals are still sent as conversions and increment “All conversions,” just not “Conversions.” Can performance customers use this integration? Yes. Paid Calls create conversion actions similar to Signals, and to send Paid Calls as conversions, you must install at the Network level with Google Call Extension promo numbers associated with an Affiliate Campaign and Affiliate. Can I change which Google user authenticates the integration? Yes — click the ellipses on the connect app and choose Re-authorize to enter new credentials. Can I integrate multiple Invoca Advertisers/Profiles with the same Google Ads credentials? Yes, but removing a shared Signal name from one profile’s integration removes the conversion in Google Ads for all of them — you’d need to manually re-enable it. Can I use different Google Ads conversion settings for the same Signal across accounts? You can manually adjust settings in the Google Ads UI, but editing the Signal’s settings from the Invoca connect app will overwrite those manual changes. How do I deactivate my integration? Go to Manage Settings, click the ellipses, and select Deactivate Integration. Signal-based conversions are set to “removed,” but previously reported data remains in Google Ads. Can I select “Data Driven” as my attribution model? Yes, but Google must independently approve it — a conversion needs at least 3,000 ad interactions and 300 conversions within 30 days to be eligible. If only one of a Signal’s two conversions (web and call extension) is eligible, you can leave the ineligible one on its prior model and set only the eligible one to Data Driven directly in Google Ads. When can I use Customer Match? Audience lists need a minimum number of active Gmail, Search, or YouTube users at the time an ad serves — Google recommends at least 1,000 users to avoid ads not serving. Should I import Google Analytics Goals based on Invoca calls and Signals? No — if you also integrate with Google Analytics, disable importing Goals based on Invoca-driven Events, since Invoca reports those calls and Signals directly to Google Ads already. Can I report conversions for Google Display Network campaigns? Yes, as long as the gclid is captured after a click-through on a display ad, and the managing account is included in your integration’s account list.

Troubleshooting

Why wasn’t my call or Signal reported in Google Ads? Google Ads can take up to 3 hours to process a conversion (longer if retrying after an error). Make sure your report filters use the ad impression date, not the conversion date. Then confirm:
  • The conversion action existed in Google Ads before the call or Signal occurred.
  • For landing-page calls: the Invoca Tag captured the gclid, the number was served from an Invoca RingPool (media type “Pooling”), and a gclid value was captured.
  • For call-extension calls: the call routed through a Google Forwarding Number to an Invoca Google Call Extension promo number (media type “Google Call Extension”) associated with the right client account ID — desktop call extensions aren’t attributed by Google.
  • Call reporting is enabled for your Ad Extensions.
Why don’t my call counts match? Some discrepancy across systems is expected. If you’re seeing fewer calls in Google Ads than expected, revisit the checks above and review the Call Details Report in Google Ads. If you’re seeing more, check whether calls are being counted twice — once for the call, once for a Signal on that same call — which is expected if you report both. What do my error messages mean?
  • “This click does not exist in the system” — the gclid didn’t match any account the integration can send data to, or is malformed (for example, from a test link).
  • “We are unable to import a conversion for this call, since either this call or the click leading to the call was not found in our system” — confirm your Call Extension settings in Google Ads use “call reporting.”
  • “This customer does not have an import conversion with a name that matches the label of this conversion” — the call may have happened before the conversion event existed, or the driving sub-account isn’t selected in the configuration. Sync accounts and confirm all driving Google Ads accounts are selected; also confirm the conversion’s name and settings in Google Ads still match Invoca’s connect app, since renaming a conversion in Google Ads breaks the match.
  • Conversion tracking status shows “unverified” or “inactive” — expected until your first offline conversion posts successfully.
Why do some Google Ads accounts appear under Overview but not Configuration? This happens when an account’s conversions are managed by another account (an MCC). Select the MCC that manages conversions under “Select Accounts to Integrate.” Google Ads authentication error. Usually caused by a removed client account under the MCC, or revoked authenticator credentials. Try “Sync Ad Accounts” first; if that doesn’t resolve it, re-authorize via the ellipses menu — using a new user with access to the same accounts as before, or the configuration will be deleted and need to be rebuilt. Autotagging shows a red X on Manage Settings — should I worry? For landing-page calls, the integration needs Invoca to capture the gclid from the URL query string, which requires autotagging enabled on your Google Ads client accounts. Why doesn’t my “Conversions” column increment for all calls and Signals? “Conversions” only counts items included in your automated bidding strategy; “All conversions” counts everything sent. Check “include in conversions” for a Signal to have it count toward the former. Why aren’t my new Google Ads client accounts showing correctly? Resync your client account list after adding or deleting accounts in Google Ads. Why can’t I see my audience/remarketing list in a Client account’s Audience Manager? If you authenticated with Manager Account credentials, the audience is created at the Manager level — share it down to Client accounts for targeting. How should I name my Google Ads campaigns? Avoid emojis — Invoca can’t accept data from campaigns with an emoji in the name.
