Enhanced Conversions send hashed first-party customer data to Google Ads, improving conversion attribution accuracy when identifiers like gclids aren’t available.
Enhanced Conversions is an extra measure to track as many conversions as possible. It uses first-party data in a privacy-safe way, addressing growing concerns around user privacy and changes to traditional tracking (like browsers stripping click identifiers or blocking cookies). This makes your conversion tracking more durable, so you can optimize Google Ads campaigns for better performance and returns.
What are Enhanced Conversions?
Enhanced Conversions let you capture and send first-party customer data, like phone numbers, in a hashed format to Google Ads. This improves conversion tracking accuracy, especially when traditional identifiers like gclids aren’t available — resulting in more complete conversion data to optimize advertising and maximize return on investment (ROI).
Why use Enhanced Conversions?
- Improved attribution accuracy — attribute more conversions to your campaigns, even when click identifiers are missing.
- Privacy-forward measurement — hashed customer data keeps tracking accurate while complying with privacy regulations.
- Cross-device attribution — bridges tracking gaps across devices, such as a user researching on desktop and purchasing later on mobile.
- Maximizing ROI — more complete conversion data helps optimize campaigns and ad spend more effectively.
Enable Enhanced Conversions in Google Ads
- Sign in to your Google Ads account.
- Go to the Goals menu, then Settings.
- If “Enhanced conversions for leads” is already enabled, skip to the next section.
- If not enabled, review and accept the Customer data terms — consult your legal team before accepting.
- Expand “Enhanced conversions for leads” and check the box to turn it on — again, consult your legal team first.
- Select Google tag from the dropdown. This attributes Invoca conversions when a user is logged into their Google Account with the same phone number they call with, even without a full Enhanced Conversions for Leads implementation — it works regardless of which tag management solution you use.
- Repeat this process for each Google Ads account you want to enable.
Integrate Enhanced Conversions with Invoca
- In Invoca, go to Integrations and select the Google Ads Connect App.
- Open the Google Ads configuration you want to edit.
- Enable the Enhanced Conversions setting. This lets Invoca send hashed customer data when reporting conversions, for calls to dynamic and static promo numbers whose media type isn’t “Google Call Extension” (those are sent separately as a Call Conversion import).
Invoca’s Account Information panel shows the settings pulled in from each of your Google Ads accounts. Invoca only reports a hashed-phone-number conversion to an account if Enhanced Conversions is enabled on the Google side — you may need to “Sync All Accounts” if you’ve made changes in Google Ads that aren’t reflected yet in Invoca. Accounts must have Enhanced Conversions for Leads enabled in Google before you sync.
Verify the integration
- In Invoca: check the Enhanced Conversions column in the Google Ads integration list, showing the number of enhanced conversions sent for the selected date range. Google ultimately decides whether an ad interaction can be attributed for an enhanced conversion event.
- In Google Ads: after enabling, review your conversion reports — you should see an uptick in attributed conversions, with a higher count for a given conversion action than the count of calls or Signals in Invoca that captured a gclid, wbraid, or gbraid.
