Deploy a basic version of the Invoca Tag to one landing page, place a test call, and see your first attribution data in your Invoca reports.
This article is for new Invoca customers in digital marketing who haven’t used a call tracking solution before. By the end, Invoca will be live on your landing page and collecting real attribution data from actual callers. Who is this for: New Invoca customers new to call tracking. How long this takes: About 30 minutes. What you’ll need: Help from a web developer, or access to add code to a test landing page yourself. If you’re migrating from a different call tracking platform, configure your integrations, call treatments, and Marketing Data capture before deploying your Invoca Tag, so your reporting doesn’t have any gaps.

Step 1: Get your Invoca Tag

Log in to your Invoca account. In the sidebar menu, click Settings, then select Invoca Tags in the Network section. Invoca works by replacing the phone numbers on your landing page with Invoca promo numbers — phone numbers provisioned to your account — shown to your visitors. Associating each visitor with a distinct promo number lets Invoca connect a phone call from that number back to the visitor’s browsing session and its marketing data. Your Invoca Tag is the component that connects your landing pages to your Invoca account, controlling which phone numbers it swaps and what visitor data it collects. In the Overview tile, click Revision History. If a Tag already exists for your account, select the topmost revision, which will be in Draft or Paused status. By default, your Tag swaps every phone number on your landing page. If you have numbers you don’t want tracked, such as a customer service line, click New Draft, then use the checkboxes in the Website Phone Numbers tab to include or exclude specific numbers, and click Save and Go Live. In the Attribution tile, you’ll see the types of attribution data your Tag is configured to collect, including standard tracking parameters like utm_medium and utm_source, and gclid (Google Click Identifier, which tracks which Google Ads search term led to the conversion). Your Tag can collect more data types than these, but they’re a good starting point. Once you’ve reviewed this, go back to the Overview tab and, in the Code Snippets tile, click Copy to Clipboard.

Step 2: Add your Invoca Tag to your landing page

Paste the Tag code into a message to your web developer and have them add it to your landing page, ideally right before the closing </body> tag. If you use a tag management app instead, you can add the Invoca Tag code there directly, without developer involvement. Once deployed, you won’t need to touch that code again — changes to which numbers your Tag swaps or what data it collects are made in your Invoca account settings, not in your landing page code.

Step 3: Place a test call

Search for your landing page and open it. In place of your normal phone number, you should see a new Invoca promo number. Dial it — you’ll be routed to the same destination number as before, as if Invoca weren’t there at all. Stay on the line for about two minutes before hanging up, so the call is captured in your reports.

Step 4: View your test call in your reports

Log back in to your Invoca account. In the sidebar menu, click Reports, then select Calls in the Detail Reports section. Your test call should appear at the top of the Total Calls list. Click Edit Columns and select the checkboxes for Calling Page, Detected Destination, Invoca Unique ID, Marketing Medium, Marketing Source, Campaign, and Content, then click Done. You’ll now see the marketing attribution data collected from your test call, confirming Invoca is live and correctly attributing calls from this landing page.
