# IVR Speech Recognition

> Let callers navigate your call treatment menus by talking instead of pressing keys.

When building a call treatment that requires customer input — like asking a question — Invoca can recognize spoken responses, so callers can navigate your menus just by talking.

For example, with speech recognition enabled, an "Ask a Question" node could prompt: "For sales, say 'sales' or press 1. For customer service, say 'customer service' or press 2." The caller could then either say "sales" or press 1 to reach your sales call center.

## Using speech recognition in your call treatments

Speech recognition needs to be enabled on your account first. Reach out to your account team or [support@invoca.com](mailto:support@invoca.com) to request it.

Once enabled, build your call treatment and check the "Enable Speech Recognition" checkbox. This adds speech recognition to the following node types:

* Ask for number input
* Ask a question
* Ask a series of questions
* Ask a yes or no question

For an "Ask a question" or "Ask a series of questions" node, you'll see a "Verbal Response" field next to each input branch — enter the word or short phrase you want Invoca to recognize there. For an "Ask for number input" or "Ask a yes or no question" node, no extra setup is needed; Invoca already knows what kind of response to listen for.

Test your new call treatment extensively once it's set up. For speech recognition on proper nouns or uncommon words, you may need to spell them phonetically. If you add or remove speech recognition while editing a call treatment, you may also need to reconfigure any named IVR keypress Signals set up for that call treatment option.
