# Google Ads: Call Extensions Setup

> Add Invoca call tracking to your Google Call Extensions by creating a static promo number, assigning it Marketing Data, and configuring it as the Call Extension destination in Google Ads.

Call Extensions add a phone number directly to Google search ads. By including an Invoca promo number in these ads, you get the same call intelligence you expect from Invoca in this high-conversion click-to-dial channel.

## Part 1: Create a new promo number for your Call Extension

Unlike Invoca phone calls driven through your landing pages via the Invoca Tag, Google Call Extensions can't serve a unique Invoca promo number to each visitor who sees your ad. You'll need to create a new static Invoca promo number for each Call Extension you want to run — it will be seen by every customer who views that ad, but will route through to your destination numbers like any other Invoca promo number.

1. Log in to your Invoca account. In the sidebar, hover over **Integrations**, click **Manage Integrations**, then click **Manage Settings** on the Google Ads tile.
2. Select the **Google Call Extensions** tab, then click **+ New Promo Number**.
3. Select the Invoca Campaign to use for this Call Extension. This determines the call treatment and destination phone number. Create a separate Google Call Extension promo number for each call treatment you need. If the Campaign is an Affiliate Campaign, you'll also need to choose an Affiliate — Affiliates can't create these promo numbers from their own accounts.
4. Choose whether the number is toll-free or from a local area code.
5. Select which Google Ads account to associate with this promo number as the Call Extension destination.
6. Optionally enter a short description for your reports, then click **Save**.
7. Copy down the phone number — you'll need it in the next two parts. Repeat these steps for each distinct market segment you want insights on (for example, each combination of creative and region you're testing).

## Part 2: Assign Marketing Data attribution to calls from your call extensions

Google Call Extensions don't use the Invoca Tag to serve dynamic numbers with dynamic attribution, so you'll need to manually assign Marketing Data values to categorize the calls you receive.

1. In Invoca, click **Promo Numbers** in the sidebar.
2. Find the phone number you created in Part 1 and click **Apply** under the Marketing Data column.
3. Select a Marketing Data field, and enter the value you want to associate with this promo number. For example, if your field tracks the viewer's search term and this Call Extension is only used for "best call tracking app," enter that term.
4. Click **+ Apply another Marketing Data value** to connect more fields. We strongly recommend applying a value for every Marketing Data field in your account — even ones only used for landing page promotions. Enter a null value like "call extension" or "n/a" for those, so you can distinguish call extension calls from overflow calls in your reports.
5. If your Campaign uses the Detected Destination feature, select "Detected Destination" from the field menu and enter the call center's phone number manually.
6. Click **Save**.

## Part 3: Configure your Google Call Extensions or Assets

Now assign your promo number as the Call Extension destination in Google Ads. Invoca uses the term "Google Call Extensions"; Google Ads now calls these "Assets" — the steps below use Google's current terminology since they're performed in the Google Ads interface.

1. In Google Ads, navigate to your Assets and choose the one to add Invoca call tracking to. If you don't have an Asset set up, [create one first](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7159348).
2. Add or edit the Invoca Google Call Extension promo number from Part 1 as the phone number for your Asset — click the blue plus icon to add a new one, or the pencil icon on an existing number to replace it.
3. Make sure [Call Reporting](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2454052) is on for each Asset you'll use.

We strongly recommend also creating a ["Calls from ads" conversion](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6095882) to see how effectively your call-only ads and Call Extensions lead to phone calls, and [linking your Google Search Console with your Google Ads account](https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/7529561) to verify each promo number you use for Call Extensions or Assets.

To bulk-import promo numbers, go to the Google Call Extensions tab of your Manage Settings page, click **Export** to download a spreadsheet of your promo numbers, then follow Google's steps to upload it into your Google Ads account.

## Optional: Collect additional data from calls placed to your Google Call Extensions
