# Display Gridlines

> Add horizontal and vertical gridlines to a chart with X and Y axes, useful for reading more complicated charts.

Charts with x- and y-axes can display gridlines. Y-axis gridlines provide horizontal gridlines, and x-axis gridlines provide vertical gridlines.

1. While viewing your Dashboard Tile as a chart, click the **chart configuration** icon on the top right.
2. The **Edit chart** panel appears. Select the **Settings** menu.
3. Select one or both of the gridline options.

X-axis gridlines are useful for more complicated charts — for example, viewing a column chart of **sales** by **department** and **store region** — or when your chart includes a **time** element.
