# Dashboard Filters

> Apply a filter across every visualization on a Dashboard, instead of filtering each table or chart individually.

Filters, including bulk filters and exclude filters, can be applied to Dashboards just as with tables and charts. These filters apply to an entire Dashboard, making it easy to see only the data you're interested in across all of its tables and charts.

## When to use a Dashboard filter

Dashboard filters are useful when you want to apply the same filter to more than one related visualization, narrowing the focus of your Dashboard for a specific purpose or audience.

When you apply a filter, the Dashboard isn't automatically saved with it applied — this encourages ad hoc filtering. Users with read-only access can create Dashboard filters and edit the values of pre-existing filters, but you need edit access to the Dashboard, and view access (or higher) to the underlying data source, to save a Dashboard filter.

Dashboard filters only apply to tables and charts based on Interaction Details. If a Dashboard also includes tables and charts built from underlying tables or user-uploaded data, the filters don't apply to those.

## Create a Dashboard filter

To add a single filter to a Dashboard:

1. Click the **More** menu icon and select **Add filters**.
2. In the populated columns menu, click the **Add filter** icon next to the column you want to filter on.
3. Select the values to include in your Dashboard Tile.
4. To exclude values instead, click **Exclude** and choose values to exclude.
5. Click **Done**.

## Apply filters to specific visualizations

You can apply a filter to only certain visualizations — see [Selective Dashboard filters](/s/article/selective-dashboard-filters), or follow these steps:

1. Select the **More** menu icon at the top right, and select **Configure filters**.
2. In the **Configure filters** modal, choose the filter you want to update from the side menu.
3. Scroll down to **Applicable to**. Select **All**, or choose specific visualizations (you can also search for one).

## Edit a filter from the Dashboard Tile

Your applied filter sits at the top of the Dashboard, where you can edit it in place, or delete it.
