# Campaigns Overview

> Every call you receive in Invoca is fielded through a campaign — the part of your account that handles call routing, call treatment, promo numbers, and (for performance marketers) affiliate payouts.

Every call you receive in Invoca is fielded through an Invoca campaign. Invoca campaigns aren't the same thing as a marketing campaign — it's the term for the part of your Invoca account that handles a range of options related to how a call is received, treated, and routed.

## Routing your phone calls to the correct destination

Call routing is the first and most important thing a campaign handles. While your Invoca Tag deployment serves promo numbers on your landing pages, your campaign determines which calls go to which destinations. Invoca supports a few different routing approaches, each housed in Campaigns:

* If you only have a few destination numbers, see [Call Treatments & IVR](/s/article/call-treatments-ivr) for how to route calls directly.
* If you manage a large network of distributed locations, such as a franchise, see [Lookup Table Routing](/s/article/lookup-table-routing).
* If you use Invoca for performance marketing, campaigns can also route calls through the affiliates that drove them, for accurate payouts — see the performance marketing section below.

## Customizing your call treatment options

Your campaign is also where you customize a caller's experience before they reach your call center — voice prompts, IVR menus, conditions based on Marketing Data, and more. See [Call Treatments & IVR](/s/article/call-treatments-ivr) for details.

## Associating your Invoca promo numbers with the correct options

In some accounts, campaigns also determine how promo numbers are used. You can assign a static promo number to a campaign for display or offline ads. Some accounts also use RingPools to manage dynamic promo numbers at the campaign level — see [Local RingPools](/s/article/local-ringpools).

## Invoca campaigns and performance marketing

Campaigns do the most work for performance marketers. Each campaign represents a distinct promotion you can invite affiliate partners (Advertisers and Publishers) to, manage payouts for, and use for tasks like bundling and syndication. Invoca offers several campaign types for performance marketing:

**"Publisher" Promotion.** Created by advertisers or networks to make a campaign available for publishers to promote, with commissions paid for calls generated. Networks can also track payouts owed to them from advertisers running campaigns through their network. Publisher Promotions can also be used purely to gain an additional level of summary reporting, even without traditional publisher involvement.

**"Advertiser" Direct Promotion.** Created to track calls responding to direct media buys — advertisers can assign unique or dynamic promo numbers to each ad placement to measure ROI. This is the typical campaign type when publishers aren't driving call traffic. Publishers can't view or apply to Direct campaigns.

**Syndicated Promotions.** Created when the original campaign runs on another network's platform. A network creates a syndicated campaign to give its own publishers access to a campaign running elsewhere; the original campaign is then considered "in syndication."

**Bundled Campaigns.** Created to combine a collection of similar campaigns — typically offering the same product or service — into a single category-based bundled campaign.

The platform provides a campaign wizard to guide campaign creation; the wizard's steps vary depending on the campaign type you choose.
