# Activate Your AI Messaging Agent in Invoca

> Connect a configured AI Messaging Agent to specific campaigns so callers can opt in to text-based conversations instead of, or in addition to, a voice call.

**This feature is part of Invoca's AI Messaging Agent capability, which may require enablement on your account.** Contact your account team if you don't see the options described below.

## Prerequisites

* An AI Messaging Agent that's already been created and configured.
* A RingPool (a group of trackable phone numbers assigned to a campaign) dedicated to each campaign that will feature the agent — work with your Invoca representative to set this up, since these pools are what let Invoca automatically text a callback number to a caller five minutes before their scheduled callback.
* A phone number that's fully SMS-enabled for the campaign.

## Provision and register an SMS number

1. Navigate to **Campaigns** in the left menu bar and select **Manage Campaigns**.
2. Open the specific campaign where the agent will be active.
3. Click the **Direct Promo Numbers** tab, then click **+ New Promo Number** to create a new toll-free number within the campaign.
4. Choose **Toll Free** as the number type.
5. Set the **Media Type** to **Mobile SMS** and enter a **Description**, such as "SMS Agent."
6. Once the number is provisioned, find it in the numbers list, click its **Actions** drop-down menu, and select **Update SMS**.
7. When prompted to enable the number for use, select **Confirm**.

Confirm the number is enabled and working before continuing. Once it is, it becomes available in the drop-down menus used for your campaign's SMS settings.

## Connect the agent to a campaign

Before integrating an agent into a campaign, confirm the agent has already been created and that the campaign uses an SMS-enabled phone number. Invoca recommends testing with a demo campaign first to validate the flow before applying changes to a live campaign.

## Configure your IVR for the agent and callbacks

Update your after-hours interactive voice response (IVR) call flow to offer texting as an option and to handle scheduled callbacks:

1. At the start of the call flow, add a condition that checks whether `custom_data["sms_callback"] = "True"`. If true, forward the call to your call center. Name this keypress "SMS Callback" (a signal Invoca creates automatically), and set it to the phone number you provisioned as Mobile SMS.
2. If that condition isn't met, add a second condition that mimics your existing IVR setup, so standard call routing continues to work as it does today.
3. If neither condition is met, offer the caller the option to switch to text. For example: "Thank you for calling `[Company Name]`. If you'd like to chat with our virtual assistant to ask questions or schedule a callback, press 9. By selecting this option, you'll opt in to receive messages and appointment notifications. Standard message and data rates apply. Or, stay on the line to leave a voicemail." Tell callers clearly that pressing 9 is what triggers the text option.
4. If the caller selects the SMS option, choose the AI agent to use, select your SMS-registered number and the RingPool created for this campaign, and set the agent's first message, for example: "Thank you for contacting `[Company Name]`. How can I help you? Reply STOP to opt out." Then select **Hang up**.
5. As a final fallback, forward any caller who doesn't opt in, or doesn't meet the previous conditions, to your detected destination as usual.

## Verify the connection and manage consent

Check the **RingPools** tab in your campaign to confirm numbers are mapped correctly, then place a test call to the campaign number and press 9 to confirm the IVR routes correctly and the initial text arrives. Both static and dynamic numbers work for testing, but use a dynamic number if you need to verify attribution data in your reports.

When a caller opts in, Invoca records consent and sends the initial text. A caller can opt out at any time by replying **STOP**, after which they receive a confirmation and their status updates to "Opted-out." They can opt in again by calling back and going through the IVR.

Check the Consumer Profile and Interactions Report to confirm consent status is accurate, that personal information the caller shares updates in the profile in real time, and that sensitive data such as credit card numbers is redacted from logs and transcripts.

## Appointment reminders

If your agent schedules appointments, Invoca sends a reminder text five minutes before the scheduled time, including a priority number. Calling that number places the caller in a priority queue in your IVR. This doesn't apply to callback-only setups without appointment booking.
